Strength and conditioning

At Running with Us we believe stretching post exercise plays a significant part in reducing injury for runners and should remain part of your post run routine. Recent research (Lauersen et al 2014) on strength training for runners, however, suggests that a regular programme of strength work may well be the biggest contributory factor in remaining injury free.

For runners, going into a gym environment can feel an alien experience and would rather be outside putting in some more miles. Strength training for runners needs to be specific and support development of the key muscle groups we utilise when we run. We have put together a series of films showing some of the key strength exercises we encourage all runners to do on a weekly basis.
