So, the nice weather stopped and the dark nights came super quickly. The last month seems to have been a really tough one. I’m starting to feel like the ‘honeymoon’ period here is over, and reality is settling in. Really missing my friends, especially my running buddy, and some of the other comforts of home. [...]

So it’s been a fair while since I’ve written. Berlin marathon came and went in a whirlwind of activity, and my move to Switzerland all happened at the same time. It’s been an interesting 4 months with altitude and weather changes playing havoc on my training- had to borrow a camelback for the long training [...]

Hmmm, I’m clearly not technical enough! It’s interesting as I’ve always thought of threshold as being around about race pace…..it has to be for me, but for shorter threshold sessions I try to take it up a notch as otherwise being in ‘comfortzone’ isn’t going to help me improve and get faster. So-top end of [...]

Loving your dogs! I love running with mine and my youngest is great on any type of training session, whilst the older one is good for recovery runs. Wherever possible I take one of them if not both on most my runs. I get so much enjoyment watching them, i find it really enhances my [...]

Hi Brian Its great to hear from you
Had to comment as your London mara time was exactly the same as mine last year! I’d been running less than a year when I did London last year and just managed to get through. I couldn’t get into London this year so did Paris instead. [...] -

Right, well where to start?! With the fun bits or the bad bits? Ok-I’ll start with the fun bits
The Company. I went with some fabulous running mates that I met from running London Mara last hear. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in a long time. The Sights. I’ve never done ‘the [...] -

Well I bought a pair if Nike nicks and have worn them on 3 runs-one of which was 2 hours. All seems fine although not sure whether they will stand the test for over 4.5 hours! Tried running without and maybe it was the particular running tights I wore as there was some chaffing….. So, [...]

So – having a good week so far after getting my PB at Reading Half on Sunday – and what an emotional day that was!! Full of concerns over my knee (ITB issues) and following the advice of my physio to not wear [...] -

Ok so this may seem an odd question but how many of you wear proper sport running knickers vs uh just the running pants bs something else? Got some new running leggings – Nike- same as I usually wear but last 2 races I’ve ended up with some rather sore areas…..now, not sure if that’s [...]

Well, what a great weekend! Managed to play most of my notes in my orchestra concert on Saturday, but the best was my PB at Reading half yesterday. Not just that but I actually beat my target by half a minute and would have probably shaved another minute off if it wasn’t for congestion due to thinner track at mile 9…..that was very annoying! Still feeling great and to top it off-no knee pain! I think the bruises from physio mean it worked

I love my easy/recovery runs as I use these sessions to go running with my dogs. It forces me to slow down and actually take in the scenery and world around me at the same time. Sadly-I can’t do this type of run all the time as I’d not get very far in marathon training [...]

Hmmmm that’s sounds a lot like my 5k park run 2 weeks ago! This guy overtook me pushing a buggy around about 3k mark. I felt like I was going to collapse with my heart rate hitting the ceiling, and he just breezed past-not even heavy breathing!

I’ve only used a power plate once-luckily it was in the golf club gym on a Sunday evening so nobody else was in there watching me reading the attached manual and trying to match my position with the little pictures in the book! Managed about 3 mins before legs felt like jelly. No idea if [...]

Well-it’s been a few weeks since I’ve written on here and there have been some incredible highs and lows. 2 weeks ago, we had to have our old dog Mustard put to sleep after a very quick and sudden illness. Having had the old fella for almost 16 years-I literally felt ripped apart. So-the following [...]
Well done Lorna! I LOVE that Kelly Holmes put your medal on you….. what a fab story. You have done so well with this race. I am very proud of you! We need to keep an eye on that knee, so like i have been saying back off and x train if you need to. Most importantly let me know how you are feeling. we can always re jig things. I also love how you stuck to ’marathon effort’ not only on the uphills but the down hills also… blimey, i know people make up time on the down hills, but you really went for it! careful of that knee though, lets stick to flat and off road as much as possible during training. Do all of the stretches as suggested and be sensible. You are doing so well……

Well, its been a pretty rough week as not been well for a few days, and missed one of my runs on Thursday as I was away with work, and with not being well, I got very little sleep, so couldnt get the run in. So – I cancelled agility tonight and did the run [...]
Hi Lorna, i’m going to text you about this as we might need to re jig things dependant upon energy levels. As to why you felt below par on last nights run, well you answered the question yourself – you haven’t slept much due to being away with work and haven’t been well! So let yourself off, well done for re fuelling and getting some good sleep. The first few steps to recovery starts with eating and sleeping. My advice is to run easy for just 30 mins at a time until fully better. We can do the long run at another point OR if you are feeling better we can make the long run shorter and cut out the MP. I will get in touch and we can decide. This is a great example of how flexible we need to be. Sometimes life/work/health throw unexpected things at us and we must adapt accordingly.
