A belated well done Simon, great effort and determination. I’ll try and remember this even if only to chase down the person ahead in races!

A top return to half marathon racing Audra. Really pleased with that 1.31. That sub 90 is just around the corner.

Where does one blog from, spent 10 minutes messing around, Q& A, then gave up, so its an update not a blog, does it matter?!

Yesterday was the 1st Hampshire XC league fixture at Farley Mount and probably one of my favourite courses. Having completely missing the previous XC season with injury I wanted to be there on the start line for thr first. On arrival I wasn’t totally convinced I should be racing, offers of pacing came and my neighbour and club teammate returning from an achilles injury not helping, both of us thinking maybe we should just trot round in our trainers as we warmed up. We are both very competitive though and agreed we couldn’t just ’trot round’ though aware we are not in our twenties anymore!

No mud to speak of, the course however had changed, no out and back to the old car park (where we used to run threshold on Saturdays Nick!). Instead the course looped in the woods, twisting & turning, its what I love, I somehow run hard and fast on these short sections of a course and if its narrow even better…..loved it. Three times up the hill made this a tough one. I was a little concerned about my calf, however decided I would go for it and wear spikes. I went off steady up the 1st sharp hill, as seemed the rest of the field and was surprised how quickly I got into my rhythm, I’m usually like a bat out of hell and die! It was hard work, i’m clearly in need of hill training, and would like to be able to maintain my speed, but surprised myself being that far up the field. Top 50 I thought would be ok on the first outing. I slowed up the hill on final lap, didn’t lose places, just strong running off the top. As we came out of the woods on the final lap, a youngster overtook me, her coach shouting at her to do so! Not convincing though, she didn’t get away and I was hot on her heels. So with 150m to go I went for it, there was no reply and I finished strongly in 29th place. Top 30 in first race, very very happy with that. i’m still smiling :) More fitness, reckon I could knock 10 places off. Top 20 place by the end of the season maybe. i’m back!!

Well after 2 previous DNS at Bristol it was 3rd time lucky for me this year, though it hasn’t been an easy year for me, with injuries and probably the least confident I have felt going into a half. I wasn’t sure what to expect as only couple of runs, a 1500 and a Parkrun! I wasn’t sure what pace to set off either as most of my recent halfs have all been at marathon pace, so I just had to go out at a reasonable but conservative pace. Sure enough I did…it was more marathon pace! It did feel too slow at first, but my first 4 miles were just under seven minute miling and at 8 miles I was on for about 1.30, so pleased I didn’t slow before this and maintained concentration… then the glute worsened and I slowed or more likely the other way around. (more speed endurance needed!) I found running those last 4 miles around the City, which were not as flat as I had thought, tough. I finished n 1.33 and whilst disappointed, under the circumstances could not have expected too much more. Thanks to Paul at Physio&Therapy I got through it and wasn’t hobbling the next day, Thanks Paul. A 1.30 finish would have put in the first 3 V45 Nick, gutted!. This gives me great motivaton to get back to the shape I need to be in to run a spring marathon and to get my time down in the next half. My favourite running season is upon us, I love the autumn, well minus the rain! Happy Running RWU friends.

I am just so pleased you raced and enjoyed the Day Audra. It has been a tough journey and your dedication to the re hab along with strengthening exercises has been amazing. This is just the start and you know you will easily run under 1.30 when a little fitter and the confidence grows. Why not head back next year and win that V45 at Bristol. Keep up the good work – a great example.

I completed the very 1st Andover parkrun last week, in a PW time! 21 and a half….. legs tired from Thursdays session that I had swopped with Tuesday’s session! Just lots going on and last few weeks fitted in training around other stuff, always hard/easy though! Top tips from Phoebe and Lucy, my 5km pace, threshold all feel like marathon pace, need to get out of that! Paul working hard on my glute and IT band so fingers crossed it disappears. Good to hear you both back are back safe and well and had a fab time in the Alps. Oh, almost forgot, got ’lost’ last Sunday and even working hard for last 20 mins, was out for 1.55 and loved it!!! Autumn marathon maybe?!!!

Yesterday I completed my first parkrun, this was also my first race for 13 months, following injury,. Great to be back and running almost pain free. Hopefully there will be more to come and I can become a regular blogger (is there such a word?). I ran with my neighbour and fellow club runner who said to me before the start…’Audra you are not going to like what I am going to tell you but you need to start at the front or you will get held up’. I was very nervous, just what I needed in my first race back. Its only a parkrun I thought. I suddenly felt the pressure of racing as starting at the front I don’t want to look a fool with the field passing me after half a mile. However, my training clearly reaping rewards, as I felt strong throughout, just a bit slow! When is the next one planned for Nick??!!!

So pleased for you Audra. You have been so patient and a complete role model for anybody who is upset by an injury. It really has been longterm for you over the past 18 months and there have been a number of false horizons. You have never given up and always looked at the next target dreaming of racing again.
A huge well done from us all and a big thank you also to Paul Holborough who is a physic genus (magic Paul as he is called these days). Let’s enjoy some more low key Park runs and club matches Audra before maybe looking at the XC season and a couple of half marathons…………..and who knows, maybe the London Marathon in 2012!! keep taking each week sensibly and let’s work towards those targets.
