I did my track session this morning, Simon.”Something” like yours, only 5×600 at 5k pace. Luckily, I had the track to myself as my sort of speed session looks nothing like one!………..6 min miles?……makes me weep!

For the last 8 months or so I have been making a pilgrimage every Tuesday night to the New River stadium to meet up with Nick, Phoebe and a group of the runners they coach to take part in track sessions. These are great fun (always), bloody hard (often) and inspiring (usually). Last night was [...]

The news about Martin Fagan this week was at first glance another story of elite runners with more money than sense showing utter disrespect for their fellow competitors in a pursuit for glory (more cash). Yet reading a little more into his situation, if we believe it, revealed a side to athletics that we rarely [...]

We went to Paris last weekend to celebrate Colin’s significant birthday. We walked over 20miles and saw nearly all the unmissable sights. We went to see the Eiffel tower at night as it lights up on the hour for 10mins…… quite stunning. I dont do well with heights and it made me feel quite ill [...]

Hello,
Just a quick post to see who is coming to Portugal this year and to see if anyone is interested in grouping together to hire a minibus?
Not sure if it is a viable suggestion right now but thought it would be good to get an idea of numbers and flight times, so we don’t have to fit 15 of us into a Volkswagon polo and have people fighting on who sits on Dave’s knee!
Let me know what you think and I will investigate.
Cheers
Chris

I was in Berlin anyway for New ears Eve with some friends and they had found this race and so wanted to do it in fancy dress. This gave me ideas about running it instead of my tempo run and also join in the fun by seeing what costume I could wear and still be [...] -

First run of the year and it has to be the TADWORTH 10mls, I,m not sure why I do it as it’s such hard work. Anyway it was bright and sunny, cold wind. As usual a lot of pushing at the start, soon you start the hills, nice drop down then up again down to [...]

I awoke suddenly to the crashing sound of breaking glass. In my confused state, I tried to fathom the possibilities….broken windows, burglars, loss of precious Christmas presents, including my new luminous green running gloves. (Santa has such a sense of humour!) I stumbled to the window to see what was going on. There was a [...]

So, the nice weather stopped and the dark nights came super quickly. The last month seems to have been a really tough one. I’m starting to feel like the ‘honeymoon’ period here is over, and reality is settling in. Really missing my friends, especially my running buddy, and some of the other comforts of home. [...]

The dust covers were only off for a short while. My latest comeback was going well. Then, one night the psoas spasm struck. This was a horrible pain, rendering me unable to move, let alone get out of bed. So I have been in rehab once again. Today saw me throwing the dust covers off [...]

I would never have heard of the Clonakilty Marathon but Clonakilty, near Cork in Ireland is my Father’s second home, he loves the place and visits at least twice a year, so it was him that told me about the marathon. So I decided I was going to run this low key marathon for my [...]

I have been frustrated by the nominees for the BBCs Sports Personality of the Year before, but this year my head almost popped with the damned stupidity of there being NO women on the shortlist and three golfers! I don’t really care whether or not the BBC want the show to be representative of what [...]

Hi all, I had some great news last week in that Experian (the parent company of Techlightenment, who I work far too hard for) agreed to sponsor me! They will give me some money each year to spend on training camps and physio/healthcare as well as race travel. This is obviously great and takes some [...]
Fabulous news Ben and much deserved mate. You are a great ambassador for the company, the sport and yourself. Plenty of miles run every week, big ambitions and all balanced alongside a busy full time career. Well done and make sure you book those fortnightly MOT’s with Paul now. Crack on with booking Kenya and joining Tom out there. We certainly look forward to seeing you out in the Algarve for a few weeks with Martin and the gang! 2.12 has to be the target…….and Scott is an inspiration to you all.

For everyone in England the XC season is only just picking up speed, over here in the US of A we are nearing the climax (Barb Trap…Lorna Russell). On Monday the NCAA Nationals are being run in Terre Haute, Indiana. Terre Haute is an interesting place boasting many quirky features, my favourite of which is [...]
